9th Annual Great
Lakes Vision Research Conference


Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce and to invite you to the 9th Annual Great
Lakes Vision Research Conference and celebration of Dr. Venkat Reddy's
research accomplishments hosted by University of Michigan, on Saturday
11/18/2006.

To date, our confirmed invited speakers include:  Dr. J. Fielding
Hejtmancik of NEI, Dr. John Crabb of Cole Eye Institute, Dr. David Beebe
of Washington University, Dr. Teri Belecky-Adams of IUPUI, and Dr. Joram
Piatigorsky of NEI. 

There is the opportunity for students and post-docs to give a 15 minute
talk, so please respond directly to me (smoroi@umich.edu), Phil Gage
(philgage@umich.edu) or Deb Eadie (eadie@umich.edu) with his/her
abstract so that our planning committee can make these selections for
the remaining 5 student/post-doc talks.

Scholarship for Young Physicians
The 6th International Glaucoma Symposium offers up to 20 scholarships for young physicians. The grant consists of free registration to the symposium plus a partial travel grant of €730, to physicians from East-Europe, Greece and Turkey aged 35 or less (by March 1, 2006) who are presenting (first) authors, not yet in a permanent position and whose abstract has been accepted.

2007 FASEB Summer Research Conference: Biology & Chemistry of Vision: 

Location: Snowmass Village, Colorado
Start Date:      Saturday, June 16, 2007
End Date:        Thursday, June 21, 2007

This 2007 conference includes major platform sessions entitled on Genetics and Animal Models of Retinal Disease, and Gene Therapy and Treatment of Retinal Disease. Additional sessions cover the latest advances in retinal biology, often with a focus on the function of genes whose mutations cause retinal disease.
Put this on your calendar.  Further messages will announce the opening of the registration Website in the spring of 2007.

Plan on bringing your students and post-doctoral fellows. We are making substantial efforts to procure outside funds to support student travel grants that are to be awarded on the basis of need as well as the scientific merit of individual scientific (poster) presentations.
